The National Theatre in Nigeria serves as the country's premier hub for performing arts. Its architectural design mirrors that of the Palace of Culture and Sports in Varna, Bulgaria, but on a scale four times larger. Situated in Iganmu, Surulere, Lagos, the monument was completed in 1976 in anticipation of the 1977 Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC).
In July 2024, President Bola Tinubu officially renamed the National Arts Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos, in honor of Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka.
